We? Who are “We” We’re talking about?
A man said that kernel is the heart of Linux. You might be agree with him. No, I don’t wanna talk about kernel because I am not capable with it
(I even not compile my own kernel. Hopefully one day later). We just need the term
. We will talk about Android today. Okay, I tell you first, on this post you will not get an A-Z things about Android. If you look for them, you can stop reading now. Just Kidding
. It’s just about something I wanna share actually. Another reason is I am not capable too with this stuff–I thought isn’t good if you use this reason too much.
We all know that Android based on Linux kernel. Very likely 2.6.x.x (Now preparing for 3.0, fifteen years is not a short time). Worked on ARM architecture with modification. There is no point with modification. Android and Linux just have that same Linux kernel. They have the same heart. That’s enough
. At least for me. The point is how Google and other members of Open Handset Alliance had the idea to started all of this. Next things on its development cycle definitely was not a big deal for them. Is Google trying to conquer the World? I don’t know
People will think twice (or maybe hundreds times) to install Linux distro on their brand new laptop. But Android offers us experiences use that Linux kernel
– You right, most people do not care about this. There are so much (I mean really-really much) Android products you can pick depends on your budget, for example. Plus, thousands applications you can get for free is a reason why people choose Android rather than others platform. But in my opinion, people just looks for the experiences (although not experiences with Linux kernel). People who choose Android is advance user, i think–I said that most likely because I’m using Android now
. You may check this link to see how Iphone, Android, and Blackberry users see each other. But remember, don’t judge people by their phone
.
Desktop Mods
For a mobile phone, Android is full customization. I won’t left you without screen shots in this post by the way
. Android can be rooted to get more satisfaction performances. This can be done with just one click. After that you may modify notif bar, change boot splash manufacture’s default with yours, over clock your processor, move installed apps to SD Card, and so on. Oh, one more thing to tell, I had QuickSSHd to ssh my phone, the most downloaded app for SSH server in the market. Android shell is not bash, there is no auto completion and no previous command by UP ARROW key. But it still kept some basic command. You can ls, cd, pwd, more, and tail if you just want to look around. Unfortunately vi won’t work (keep say readonly) even I have my phone rooted. So, only fake root, I guess. But hey, shell is the best and the simplest way for you to talk to kernel.

Oh, there is a joke about Andorid out there why they’ve named theirs start from (C)upcake. It’s because A is already taken by Apple and B by Blackberry. Do you think so?
